With all stops pulled out, no stone left unturned, and every last detail examined, this Martin D-18 is truly unlike any that came before it – other than its original 1930s ancestors. The experts at Martin have used state of the art technology and the finest eye for quality to craft a period-correct recreation of a 1939 D-18. Part of the Martin Authentic series, this acoustic guitar is both a historic gem and modern marvel at once.
This D-18 features period-accurate hide glue construction and an Authentic 1939 Rearward-Shifted X-Brace bracing pattern to replicate design you would only find with an original 1930s model. A solid Adirondack spruce top is paired with solid genuine mahogany back and sides to construct the D-14 fret-shaped body. This combination of woods is joined by a solid black ebony fingerboard for a traditional feel in hand. An Authentic 1939 mahogany neck barrel and heel fills your grip firmly as you hold this D-18 in your arms. Another highlight of this historic instrument is its use of the Martin Vintage Tone System, or VTS. This specialized recipe is based on a historic torrefaction system which precisely ages the Adirondack spruce top and braces to replicate tones normally only found in vintage guitars. As a modern instrument with a vintage voice, this D-18 is a wonder. Additional features of this Martin Authentic model include period-accurate appointments, abalone fingerboard inlays, an Authentic Style long saddle style ebony bridge, and a Golden Era style headplate.
Martin’s legacy in acoustic guitar design and construction is put on display in a new way with their Authentic series. This D-18 captures their mastery of the craft for players of today to experience first-hand a musical legacy that spans generations.
