Seeking the tone and look of an ES-335 but want a slightly smaller or lighter guitar? Then the Gibson ES-339 is for you. Already a modern classic semi-hollow body guitar, the ES-339 was designed as a smaller version of Gibson’s famous ES-335. The ES-339 packs the same punch and sustain as its predecessor, without the extra bulk.
The ES-339 is powered by a ‘57 Classic humbucker in the neck pickup and a ‘57 Classic + humbucker in the bridge pickup, giving you the tone and feel of a vintage Gibson. Two volume controls, two tone controls and a 3-way toggle switch allow you to use either pickup individually, or combine the two for a bigger, warmer sound.
Gibson’s ES-339 is made with a bevy of high-quality components, including: a 3-ply maple and poplar laminate body, a Rounded “C” mahogany neck profile, a rosewood fingerboard and a lightweight ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with a Stop bar tailpiece. Tuning on the ES-339 is very stable and precise thanks to Grover Rotomatic tuners with Kidney Buttons.
The Rounded “C” mahogany neck profile on the ES-339 is an old-school approach reminiscent of neck profiles you would find on a sought-after, vintage Gibson. The guitar’s rosewood fingerboard also undergoes Gibson’s revolutionary fret-leveling treatment, typically reserved only for custom level guitar buyers. Needless to say, the Gibson ES-339 is an extremely playable fretboard up and down all 22 Medium Jumbo frets.
The goal of the Gibson ES-339 is to have the same appeal of the ES-335 but in a smaller chassis. The ES-339 is a comfortable guitar that provides semi-hollow body warmth without crazy feedback, thanks to the solid maple center block. Check out the Gibson ES-339 if you’re looking for classic semi-hollow body tone in a smaller guitar.
