From the Fender Custom Shop is this Vintage Custom ’59 Telecaster Custom. The Vintage Custom series is new for 2018. The idea of the series is to represent new old stock V1s of what would become classic Fender guitars. Finishes, wiring schematics, and neck profiles would change throughout the original design process in the 1950s.
This guitar features a double-bound alder body, medium C-shape maple neck with 21-fret Rosewood board, single-ply white pickguard (with matching switch tip), and is finished in three tone sunburst. Its Lush Closet Classic relic package displays checking throughout the body and neck, but no finish wear or bare wood shown – as if the guitar were kept carefully stored over the years, but still exposed to elements and playing time.
At just shy of seven pounds, this Custom Shop Tele is very comfortable to play. Its handwired pickups exemplify what a late ’50s Tele would sound like – not too hot and loaded with clarity and dynamic response. The C neck shape is easy to play and fit for a variety of players. For the player in search of a Custom Shop Telecaster with classic, vintage feel and sound that he or she doesn’t want to make the first scratch on – but doesn’t want a pre-told story – this Vintage Custom ’59 Tele Custom may easily hold as top contender.
